Aḥmad (6/201) said: “ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj informed me. He said: ‘ʿAṭāʾ claimed that ʿĀʾishah said it’”—and he then cited it. I said, “From whom do you relate this?” He replied, “I do not know. I think that I heard ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr say it.”
Abū ʿĀṣim corroborated him, narrating from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAṭāʾ, who said: “I believe that ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr narrated it to me from ʿĀʾishah.” Ibn Jarīr transmitted it.
Sufyān also corroborated him, from ʿAmr, from ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿĀʾishah. Aḥmad likewise transmitted it (6/41), as did Ibn Jarīr, al-Tirmidhī (3214)—who said, “Good and authentic”—and al-Nasāʾī. Ibn Ḥajar made no comment on it in al-Fatḥ (8/526).
The hadith has two supporting witnesses. One is the narration of al-Mughīrah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥizāmī, from Abū al-Naḍr, the freedman of ʿUmar, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb ibn Zamʿah, from Umm Salamah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not die until Allah had permitted him to marry whichever women he wished, except women within the forbidden degrees of kinship.”
Ibn Abī Ḥātim transmitted it in al-Tafsīr, as cited in Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr (3/500), though the chain of transmission there contains typographical errors.
Its chain of transmission is good.
Ibn Saʿd also transmitted it (8/194) through Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Wāqidī, from Bardān ibn Abī al-Naḍr, from his father, with the same report.
The other supporting witness is narrated by Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, who said: “Muḥammad ibn Abī Mūsā narrated to me from Ziyād—a man from the Anṣār—who said:”
