as stated in al-Taʿjīl. He mentioned no hadith of his other than the hadith of Anas, so this hadith should be added to his record.
As for Qatādah ibn al-Fuḍayl, Abu ʿAwanah has his name as “al-Faḍl,” in the non-diminutive form. This is one of the reported versions of his name, as Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned in al-Thiqāt (7/341 and 9/42); it is therefore not a typographical error, as one might suppose. In my view, he is trustworthy, as stated in Taysīr al-Intifāʿ.
Among those corroborating reports is the hadith of Abu ʿAmrah al-Anṣārī, who said:
“We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on an expedition …”
The hadith is similar, with the wording:
“… No servant who believes in them both will meet Allah without being shielded from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.”
It was transmitted by al-Nasāʾī (8793), ʿAmal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah (1140), and Aḥmad (3/417–418), all through ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubārak—whose narration appears in al-Zuhd (321/917)—from al-Awzāʿī, who said: al-Muṭṭalib ibn Ḥanṭab al-Makhzūmī narrated to me; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿAmrah narrated to me; he said: my father narrated to us … and he mentioned it.
A number of narrators corroborated him in reporting it from al-Awzāʿī.
It was transmitted by Ibn Ḥibbān (no. 8 in Mawārid), al-Ḥākim (2/618), and al-Bayhaqī (6/121). Al-Ḥākim said:
“Its chain of transmission is authentic.”
Al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
It is as they both said, for Ibn Abī ʿAmrah explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as appears in Ibn al-Mubārak’s narration. By Allah’s praise, the first section is complete; the second section follows, Allah willing. *
