from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: … He then cited it.
Al-Bukhārī mentioned him in the biographical entry for this Ibn Wālibah, but did not state either any criticism or accreditation concerning him. Ibn Abī Ḥātim did likewise.
As for Ibn Ḥibbān, he listed him—following his usual practice—in al-Thiqāt (7/416), and included this hadith in his Ṣaḥīḥ, as you can see.
As for al-Ḥākim’s statement following it:
“All of its narrators are Medinans, none of whom has been ascribed to any form of criticism!”
this does not establish their reliability, for the same may be said of anyone who is unknown: that he has not been ascribed to criticism. So take note.
Al-Ṭabarānī said:
“This hadith is not narrated from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr except through this chain of transmission; Ibn Abī Uways alone narrated it.”
I say: Although he was one of the narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, he was criticized for his retention. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb:
“Truthful; he erred in hadiths that he narrated from memory.”
I say: The hadith also has another hidden defect: the discontinuity between Saʿīd ibn Jubayr and Abū Hurayrah. Ibn Maʿīn said:
“It has not been established that he heard from him.”
