was narrated by Qutaybah from Ibn Lahiʿah, I decided to transfer it from al-Ḍaʿīfah to this collection, especially since it is corroborated by the mursal report of ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr.
- “I am your share among the prophets, and you are my share among the nations.”
Ibn Hibban (2304), Ibn Shahin in al-Afrad (folio 4/1), al-Bazzar (3/321/2847), and Abu Nuʿaym in Akhbar Asbahan (2/224–225) transmitted it through Abu Kurayb Muhammad ibn al-ʿAlaʾ: Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us; Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to us from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Habibah al-Taʾi, from Abu al-Dardaʾ, who said: The Messenger of Allah said: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Bazzar said:
“We know of no one who narrated it from the Prophet except Abu al-Dardaʾ, and we know of no one who narrated it from Zayd ibn al-Hubab except Abu Kurayb.”
That is what he said. Yet, although Abu Kurayb was trustworthy and one of the narrators of the two Sahihs, he was not alone in narrating it. Ibn Shahin stated immediately afterward:
“It is an authentic hadith; Abu ʿAmir al-Asadi corroborated it, reporting from al-Thawri.”
I say: This corroborating narration was transmitted by al-Tabarani in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir. Al-Haythami cited it in a more complete form in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid (1/174), saying:
“Abu al-Dardaʾ reported that ʿUmar brought some compendia from the Torah to the Messenger of Allah and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, these are compendia from the Torah which I obtained from a brother of mine from Banu Zurayq.’ The face of the Messenger of Allah changed, whereupon ʿAbd Allah ibn Zayd—the one who was shown the call to prayer—said, ‘May Allah confound your mind! Do you not see what is upon the face—’”
