“Al-Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Righteousness, and Ahmad through two routes (p. 365, vol. 2)!”
This is mistaken, for al-Tirmidhi did not narrate it at all, while Ahmad narrated it only through two routes from Sulayman ibn Bilal, as mentioned above—not from Abu Hurayrah, as his wording might suggest.
Moreover, although the hadith is not found in any of the Six Books, al-Haythami did not include it in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid, despite its meeting his condition, because Ahmad had narrated it! *
3198—“He would say: ‘Indeed, all good is the good of the Hereafter.’ Or he said: ‘O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Helpers and the Emigrants.’”
Ahmad narrated it (3/169): Hajjaj narrated to us; he said: Shuʿbah narrated to me; he said: I heard Qatadah say: Anas ibn Malik narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, … then he mentioned it. Shuʿbah said: Qatadah would say this in his accounts.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Al-Bukhari (3795 and 3796), Muslim (5/188), al-Tirmidhi (3857)—who authenticated it—al-Nasaʾi in al-Sunan al-Kubra (5/84/8313 and 8314), Ahmad (3/169, 170, 172, and 278), and Abu Yaʿla (5/358 and 476) also narrated it through other routes from Shuʿbah, from him, but without the statement, “Qatadah would …” Some of them, however, mentioned Muʿawiyah ibn Qurrah (Abu Iyas) and Humayd in place of Qatadah.
They were corroborated by Abu al-Tayyah al-Dubaʿi, from Anas, with the same report.
Ibn Majah (742), Ibn Hibban (9/190/7215), and Ahmad (3/118 and 244) narrated it through routes from Hammad, with the same report; it is also one of Muslim’s narrations (5/189).
