I have cited the hadith under discussion only because of the word al-kashh (“flank”) that it contains, and in order to adduce some supporting reports that strengthen it, such as the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him. It has two routes from him.

The first is from Usamah ibn Zayd, who said: Musa ibn Muslim, the freedman of Qariz’s daughter, informed me from Abu Hurayrah that he would sometimes narrate from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: “It was related to me by one who had long eyelashes and white flanks: when he faced someone, he did so with his whole body, and when he turned away, he did so with his whole body. No eye has seen the like of him, nor will it ever see the like of him.”

Al-Bukhari transmitted it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (255) and in al-Tarikh (4/1/295), and Ibn Sa‘d in al-Tabaqat (1/415).

Al-Bukhari mentioned him in his biographical entry on this Musa, without recording either criticism or accreditation concerning him. Ibn Abi Hatim followed him in this, and neither of them mentioned any narrator from him other than this Usamah. For this reason, al-Dhahabi said in al-Mizan: “He is unknown.”

As for Ibn Hibban, he included him, in accordance with his usual practice, in al-Thiqat (5/403). Al-Hafiz said in al-Taqrib: “Acceptable.” That is, when corroborated—and he has indeed been corroborated. Abd al-Malik ibn Qudamah ibn Ibrahim al-Jumahi narrated it from Qudamah ibn Musa, from Muhammad ibn Sa‘id [ibn] al-Musayyib [from his father], that whenever Abu Hurayrah saw a Bedouin or anyone who had not seen the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he would say: “Shall I describe the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to you? He had broad feet, long eyelashes, and white flanks,”
