“Its chain of transmission is authentic, and such a statement cannot be based on personal opinion.”
I say: This is further supported by the fact that what precedes it accords with the reality of today—a matter that can be known only through revelation.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Aswad was Ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Aswad al-Baṣrī, Abū Bakr. He was a trustworthy hadith master.*
3190—“In the land of Abyssinia there is a king in whose presence no one is wronged. So go to his land until Allah grants you relief and a way out of what you are facing.”
Al-Bayhaqī recorded it in al-Sunan (9/9) and in Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah (2/301), through the route of Ibn Isḥāq, who said: al-Zuhrī related to me, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām, from Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said:
“When Mecca became too oppressive for us, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were harmed and persecuted, and they saw the trials and persecution in their religion that befell them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was unable to ward this off from them, while he himself was protected by his people and his uncle, so that none of the harm that afflicted his Companions—and that distressed him—reached him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: …” He then cited it. “So we departed for it in successive groups, until we gathered there and settled in the best abode, with the best neighbour. We were secure in our religion and feared no injustice from him …” He then mentioned the hadith in full.
This is how it appears in al-Sunan, where al-Bayhaqī cited it in full over four pages.
The hadith also appears in Sīrah Ibn Hishām (1/343), from Ibn Isḥāq, who said: … He then cited a similar wording, though with a double break in its chain, without providing its chain of transmission. Its wording is:
“If you were to depart for the land of Abyssinia, for there is a king there in whose presence no one is wronged, and it is a land of truth, until Allah …” The hadith.
