- “Whoever performs a prayer without completing it, it will be supplemented from his voluntary prayers until it is complete.”
Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (18/22–23): ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal narrated to us; al-Haytham ibn Khārijah narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayr narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Qays al-Sakūnī, who said: I heard ʿĀʾidh ibn Qurṭ say: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: … and he mentioned it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy narrators of al-Bukhārī, apart from ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad, who was a trustworthy hadith master; although there has been some minor criticism of Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayr.
In the biographical notice on ʿĀʾidh ibn Qurṭ in al-Iṣābah, al-Ḥāfiẓ also attributed this hadith to al-Baghawī, Ibn Abī Khaythamah, and Ibn Shāhīn, through Qays ibn Muslim al-Sakūnī, from ʿĀʾidh ibn Qurṭ, with the same wording. He said:
“Its chain of transmission is good.”
The name “Qays ibn Muslim” appears there, but it is a transposition and corruption. Perhaps this was a printer’s error, unless it was a slip of the author’s pen.
Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (1/291):
“Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Kabīr, and its narrators are trustworthy. On the authority of ʿAbd Allah ibn Qurṭ, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said …”
I say: He then mentioned the hadith and said: “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Kabīr, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: The section concerning ʿAbd Allah ibn Qurṭ in al-Ṭabarānī’s al-Kabīr has not yet been printed, so that we may examine its chain of transmission. I think it is the one found in al-Ṭabarānī’s other book, Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn, where he said (2/493—the photographic copy): Aḥmad ibn al-Muʿallā al-Dimashqī narrated to us; Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us:
