Note: His statement in the hadith under discussion, “Except that you have ties of kinship, which I shall maintain,” is a strong corroborating report for an addition conveying the same meaning, which al-Bukhari cited in suspended form in the previously mentioned hadith of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, in volume two, no. 764. I had failed to mention it there—and exalted is He who encompasses all things in knowledge. I therefore added this corroborating report at the end of the aforementioned volume in its new edition (no. 6).
Among the oddities that ought to be pointed out is that the so-called Hassan ibn ‘Abd al-Mannan had declared the aforementioned addition defective in his annotations to his edition of Imam al-Nawawi’s Riyad al-Salihin (133/241), saying:
“This addition was cited by al-Bukhari, but not Muslim, in suspended form following the hadith. Al-Bukhari gave its connected chain in the Book of Righteousness, from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahid ibn ‘Anbasah; yet I have not found a biographical entry for him.”
This is what I had mentioned there concerning this Muhammad, while the aforementioned corroborating report escaped me at that time. Had the person in question been a researcher and hadith verifier—as he claims—he would have pointed this out to me, for that corroborating report was before his very eyes when he declared the addition defective, since it appears in Riyad al-Salihin immediately before the hadith of ‘Amr! But, from examining the hadiths in this edition of his, it has become clear to me that he knows nothing whatsoever of this discipline, apart from declaring authentic hadiths weak—such as the hadith of al-‘Irbad ibn Sariyah concerning the admonition, which a number of leading scholars declared authentic. It has five chains of transmission, some of them authentic, as well as a corroborating report, as you may see at the end of the volume referred to above! *
