Mu‘awiyah ibn Ishaq also narrated it from Musa ibn Talhah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: … He then cited it in abridged form as a mursal report.
Al-Nasa’i likewise recorded it in al-Sunan al-Kubra (4/108/6472/2). Perhaps this was due to Mu‘awiyah ibn Ishaq, for although he was among al-Bukhari’s narrators, he had some errors, as al-Hafiz indicated in his statement: “Truthful, though he sometimes erred.”
Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman and Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib also corroborated Musa ibn Talhah’s narration from Abu Hurayrah, with a similar wording but some abridgment. It includes his statement:
“O Safiyyah, aunt of the Messenger of Allah, I can avail you nothing against Allah.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhari (4771), Muslim, Abu ‘Awanah, Ibn Hibban (8/173/6515), and al-Nasa’i.
All of them, apart from al-Bukhari, as well as al-Tirmidhi (7/72/2310 and 8/329/3184), also recorded it in abridged form from the hadith of ‘A’ishah. Besides mentioning the revelation of the verse, it contains only his calling Safiyyah and Fatimah; and it adds: “Ask me for whatever you wish of my wealth.”
Al-Tirmidhi said: “Good and authentic.”
Ibn ‘Abbas also narrated concerning the revelation of the verse, and the Prophet’s calling the clan of ‘Abd al-Muttalib and others; it includes the revelation of: “May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, and may he perish!”
It was recorded by al-Bukhari and Muslim, Abu ‘Awanah, Ibn Hibban, and others. Al-Tirmidhi (9/89/3360) said: “A good, authentic hadith.”
