Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

First: the narration of Zuhrah ibn ‘Amr ibn Ma‘bad al-Taymi, from Abu Hazim, from Sahl ibn Sa‘d, who said:

“I witnessed the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when one of his incisors was broken, his face was wounded, and the helmet upon his head was crushed. I know who washed the blood from his face, who brought him water, and what was placed upon his wound until the bleeding stopped. Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, washed the blood from his face, while ‘Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—brought her water in a small shield. When she had washed the blood from her father’s face, she burned a mat; when it had become ashes, she took some of those ashes and placed them on his face until the bleeding stopped. Then he said that day:

“Allah’s wrath is severe against people who wounded the face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.”

He then remained silent for a while and said:

“O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.”

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (6/200–201): “Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar al-Sufi narrated to us; Dawud ibn ‘Amr al-Dabbi narrated to us; Zuhrah ibn ‘Amr ibn Ma‘bad al-Taymi narrated to us…”

I say: This is a good or authentic chain of transmission, for its narrators are known and trustworthy, apart from this Zuhrah. Al-Bukhari (2/1/443) and Ibn Abi Hatim (1/2/615) mentioned him through the reports of three other narrators from him. Al-Bukhari neither criticized nor accredited him, while Ibn Hibban included him in al-Thiqat (6/344).

Oddly, al-Haythami did not include this hadith in Majma‘ al-Zawa’id, neither under the Battle of Uhud nor elsewhere, insofar as I was able to review; nor did al-Basyuni mention it in Faharis al-Majma‘; nor did our brother Hamdi ‘Abd al-Majid al-Salafi attribute it to him in his annotations to
