And a number of narrators corroborated ʿAmr, as mentioned in the following supporting reports:
The third: Muharib ibn Dithar, from him.
Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi recorded it in his Musnad, saying (239/1728): Shuʿbah narrated to us from Muharib, with the same report, which includes:
“When that man saw this, he prayed and then departed.”
Al-Bukhari (1/200/705), al-Tahawi (1/125), al-Bayhaqi (3/116), Ahmad (3/299), and Ibn Abi Shaybah (1/359) also recorded it through this route.
Al-Aʿmash corroborated him from Muharib ibn Dithar with the wording:
“The man withdrew and prayed in a corner of the mosque.”
Al-Nasaʾi recorded it (1/133).
The fourth: ʿUbayd Allah ibn Miqsam, from Jabir. It includes:
“A young man from his people prayed behind him, but when it became too lengthy for the young man, he prayed and left.”
Ibn Khuzaymah (3/64/1634) and al-Bayhaqi (3/116) recorded it.
The fifth: Abu al-Zubayr, from him. Those who recorded it have already been mentioned at the beginning of this documentation. It contains additions not found in the other narrations, and I have cited its wording in The Description of the Prayer.
In sum, the absence of any mention of the man’s taslim in those authentic narrations from Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah, and in those supporting reports for him and for his teacher, ʿAmr ibn Dinar, leaves no room for doubt that Muhammad ibn ʿAbbad erred in mentioning the taslim. This is what al-Bayhaqi indicated above, and al-Hafiz clarified it when he said in al-Fath (2/194), after citing Ibn ʿAbbad’s wording:
