al-Laythi said: The Messenger of Allah said—while we were sitting on a carpet:
“There will indeed be a tribulation.” They said, “What are we to do, O Messenger of Allah?” He then stretched his hand toward the carpet and grasped it, saying:
“You must do like this.”
On another occasion, he mentioned to them that “There will indeed be a tribulation,” but many of the people did not hear him. Muadh ibn Jabal said, “Will you not listen to what the Messenger of Allah is saying?” They asked, “What did he say?” He replied: … and repeated it.
He said:

I say: He is trustworthy and is among the narrators of both Shaykhs, as are all the other narrators in the chain: they are trustworthy narrators of the Sahih. The only exception is Abdullah ibn Salih, concerning whom there is some weakness; however, his report has been corroborated.
Al-Tahawi said in Mushkil al-Athar (2/68): Yunus ibn Abd al-Ala related to us: Yahya ibn Abdullah ibn Bukayr related to us: al-Layth related it to me in the same manner.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission; all its narrators are trustworthy narrators of Muslim. Thus, the hadith is authentic, and all praise is due to Allah, Most High.
Note: Busr ibn Said—the devout Medinan worshipper—has been corrupted in al-Mushkil into “Bashir ibn Sad.” The annotator there said:
“Perhaps he is Bashir ibn Sad ibn al-Numan, who witnessed Uhud and other events with his father, as stated in al-Tajrid …”
I say: This is as far from verification as can be, for several reasons:
