“Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Awsat through Ismaʿil ibn ʿAyyash’s narrations from the Madinans, and this is weak.”
I say: I do not know whether this is through one of the two routes mentioned above or through a third route, for I did not find it in Majmaʿ al-Bahrayn and was consequently unable to examine it, despite having gone through all of Anas’s hadiths in al-Muʿjam al-Awsat, aided by the index I had compiled for it.
I say: Then, after further investigation, I found it in al-Awsat (1748), through Ismaʿil ibn ʿAyyash, from ʿUmarah ibn Ghaziyyah, from Sulayman ibn Musa ... with the same wording.
This is a strong corroborating narration for Usamah ibn Zayd. Although it includes Ibn ʿAyyash, he has been corroborated; so praise be to Allah. As is apparent, it is from the same first route.
As for the supporting narration, it is reported by Musa ibn ʿUbaydah, from Muhammad ibn Thabit al-Qurashi, from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would say:
“O Allah, benefit me by what You have taught me; teach me what benefits me; increase me in knowledge; and praise be to Allah in every circumstance. I seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Fire.”
It was recorded by Ibn Abi Shaybah in al-Musannaf (10/281/9442), and from him by Ibn Majah (251 and 3833), al-Tirmidhi (3593), al-Bayhaqi in al-Shuʿab (4/91/4376), al-Baghawi in Sharh al-Sunnah (5/173/1372), and al-Tabarani in al-Duʿaʾ (3/1455/1404)—the additional wording is his.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. Musa ibn ʿUbaydah—al-Zabadhi—was deemed weak by the majority,
