3133—(Do not derive any benefit from a carcass.)
Al-Bukhari transmitted it in al-Tarikh (4/1/167), as did Ibn Asakir (14/370), from him; and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (2/286/1276), through the route of Hisham ibn Ammar, from Sadaqah ibn Khalid, from Yazid ibn Abi Maryam, from al-Qasim ibn Mukhaymirah, from Abdullah ibn Ukaym, who said: “A group of our elders from Juhaynah related to us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to them: ‘That no ...’” the hadith.
This is an authentic chain of transmission; its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of al-Sahih. There is well-known criticism of Hisham ibn Ammar, despite his being one of al-Bukhari’s shaykhs, but a number of narrators corroborated him:
- Muhammad ibn al-Mubarak: Sadaqah ibn Khalid narrated it to us with this chain.
Al-Tahawi transmitted it in Sharh Maʻani al-Athar (1/271) and Mushkil al-Athar (4/260–261).
- Al-Hakam ibn Musa: Sadaqah narrated it to us with this chain.
Al-Bayhaqi transmitted it in his Sunan (1/25).
Muhammad ibn al-Mubarak is trustworthy and among the narrators of both al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Al-Hakam ibn Musa is trustworthy and among the narrators of Muslim.
Moreover, Sadaqah ibn Khalid was corroborated by Ayyub ibn Hassan, who narrated it to us from Yazid ibn Abi Maryam with this chain.
Al-Bayhaqi transmitted it (1/25).
Ayyub ibn Hassan is truthful, as al-Hafiz said in agreement with Abu Hatim, and Ibn Hibban listed him in al-Thiqat (8/127).
