“Acceptable.”
As for Utbah ibn Yaqzan, al-Dhahabi said:
“Some declared him trustworthy, while al-Nasa’i said: ‘He is not trustworthy.’”
I say: It has two other chains from Ibn Abbas that strengthen it:
The first is narrated by Abu Mu’adh, from Abu Bishr Ja‘far ibn Abi Wahshiyyah, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording:
“No believer is without a sin that he commits from time to time. Indeed, the believer is very forgetful; when reminded, he remembers.”
Al-Tabarani transmitted it in al-Mu‘jam al-Awsat (2/60/2/6011) and said:
“No one narrated it from Abu Bishr except Abu Mu’adh, who was Sulayman ibn Arqam.”
I say: Al-Hafiz said:
“Weak.”
And al-Dhahabi said:
“Abandoned.”
I say: The third chain renders it unnecessary, for it is authentic. Ikrimah narrates it from Ibn Abbas, attributed to the Prophet, with a more complete wording; its documentation has already preceded under no. 2276. Al-Haythami said beneath it (10/201):
“Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir and al-Awsat in an abridged form. One of the chains in al-Kabir consists of trustworthy narrators, and it contains the full wording.”
He meant this route through Ikrimah. *
