This al-Naysaburi, however, was discredited. Al-Hafiz said:
“Although he was knowledgeable, he was abandoned, because he was susceptible to prompting; moreover, Ibn Ma'in explicitly accused him of lying.”
Haywah also corroborated Ibn Lahi'ah in narrating it from Uqayl. Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned it in al-Ilal (2/45), through the transmission of Hisham ibn Ammar, from Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq, from Haywah.
This Haywah was Haywah ibn Shurayh al-Misri, a trustworthy narrator.
However, Ibn Abi Hatim related from his father that the correct version is: from al-Zuhri, from Ibn Umar, without Salim. That is what he said, but he did not mention his proof for it.
Marwan ibn Muhammad also narrated it: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us: Qurrah ibn Haywa'il narrated to me, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, through the same chain.
Ibn Majah also transmitted it.
Ibn Wahb differed from Ibn Lahi'ah, saying: Qurrah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Ma'afiri informed me, from Ibn Shihab, that Abdullah ibn Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—said ... and then cited it.
Al-Bayhaqi transmitted it (9/280).
This is more authentic than Ibn Lahi'ah’s narration from Qurrah, and it appears that Abu Hatim regarded it as sound for this reason, as noted just above. But this does not undermine Qutaybah’s narration from Ibn Lahi'ah, from Uqayl, for the reasons already explained.
I have found a corroborating transmission for it, narrated by al-Husayn ibn Sayyar: Ibrahim ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, through the same chain.
