Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

—the other such hadiths—repudiating them by declaring them weak, or negating the attributes they affirm through figurative reinterpretation, just as he has done with the verses concerning the divine attributes, such as coming, aboveness, and istiwa' (rising over the Throne), in imitation of al-Kawthari and his like among the Jahmites. May Allah deal with them as they deserve! *

3130—“When one of you slaughters, let him dispatch it swiftly.”

Ahmad (2/108) transmitted it: Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Uqayl, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn Abdullah, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, commanded that blades be sharpened and concealed from the animals, and that, when one of you slaughters ...—the hadith.

Ibn Adi also transmitted it in al-Kamil (The Complete Work) (4/148), and through his route al-Bayhaqi transmitted it in Shu'ab al-Iman (Branches of Faith) (7/483/11074), by another route from Qutaybah ibn Sa'id with the same chain, except that he said, “Uqayl narrated to us ...” Thus, Ibn Lahi'ah explicitly stated direct transmission in both reports. Ibn Adi cited it among the hadiths he presented in Ibn Lahi'ah’s biographical entry (pp. 144–154). Al-Dhahabi likewise cited it in al-Mizan (The Scale). At the end of the entry, Ibn Adi said:

“His hadith is good, and he is one whose hadith is recorded.”

I say: The conclusion reached by the critical scholars is that his hadith is good when supported by corroborating reports, except for what is transmitted by the Abadilah, among whom was Abdullah ibn Wahb; this is authentic, as some of the imams have explicitly stated.

It later became clear to me that Qutaybah ibn Sa'id’s transmission from him belongs to the same category as the transmissions of the Abadilah. Imam Ahmad said to him:

“Your hadiths from Ibn Lahi'ah are authentic.”
