I say: It is an authentic mursal report with a sound chain of transmission, and it contains an account. It is found in Ghayat al-Maram (140/207).
The other is from Qatadah, attributed directly to the Prophet, with similar wording. Ibn Jarir narrated it, saying: Bishr ibn Muʿadh narrated to us; Jamiʿ ibn Hammad narrated to us; Yazid ibn Zurayʿ narrated to us, from Saʿid, from him.
This is a chain whose narrators are trustworthy and are among those found in al-Tahdhib, apart from Jamiʿ ibn Hammad, whom I have not identified. See what the eminent scholar Shakir said in his marginal note on al-Tafsir (10/516).
Note that I had previously included this hadith in the other book through the lengthy narration of Saʿid ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-ʿAmyaʾ. It contains the addition to which I referred above, as narrated by Abu Dawud and Abu Yaʿla. I explained the difference between their respective texts and that Ibn Abi al-ʿAmyaʾ alone reported this addition. In Takhrij al-Mishkah (1/64), I judged its chain weak because of this Ibn Abi al-ʿAmyaʾ, and mentioned that al-Hafiz indicated that he was a narrator of slight weakness.
I did likewise in Ghayat al-Maram (140/207), but there I cited a supporting report from the mursal narration of Abu Qilabah and then said:
“It may perhaps be deemed good by virtue of this supporting report. And Allah knows best.”
Shaykh ʿAbd Allah al-Duwaysh, may Allah have mercy on him, then commented on this in Tanbih al-Qari (27/29), saying:
“I say: This is correct.” He added nothing further.
