It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (20/315/750), whose wording is cited here, and by Aḥmad (5/33).
Abū Hilāl’s name was Muḥammad ibn Sulaym al-Rāsibī. He was truthful, though somewhat weak in precision, as stated in al-Taqrīb; so perhaps the omission occurred on his part.
Yazīd—namely, Yazīd ibn Hārūn al-Wāsiṭī—differed from Abū Usāmah in its chain of transmission. Abū Usāmah’s name was Ḥammād ibn Usāmah. Yazīd said: “Kahmas ibn al-Ḥasan informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq narrated to us: A man from ʿAnazah, called Zāʾidah or Muzāyidah ibn Ḥawālah, told me: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of his journeys, and the Prophet alighted beneath the shade of a leafy tree ...” He then mentioned another hadith of Ibn Ḥawālah, at the end of which was part of Abū Usāmah’s hadith that its narrator had not retained.
It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/33).
I say: It appears to me, from the context of the hadith and its chain of transmission, that the narrator had not preserved and transmitted it accurately; but I have not been able to determine who he was, since they are all reliable. Al-Ḥāfiẓ included this Zāʾidah in al-Iṣābah on account of this narration of Aḥmad, but I do not consider that sound—particularly since he did not approve of Imam Aḥmad’s procedure of citing the hadith under “The Musnad of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥawālah” in its entirety, as he narrated it through Yazīd ibn Hārūn’s route and added to it, without omitting anything from it. Aḥmad recorded it (4/109): Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; he said: al-Jurayrī narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, from Ibn Ḥawālah, who said:
“I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was sitting beneath the shade of a leafy tree ...” The hadith follows, including his saying to him, peace and blessings be upon him:
“How will you act amid a tribulation that emerges at the edges of the earth ...?” and so forth, as in Abū Usāmah’s narration. This is among what was not retained in Yazīd ibn Hārūn’s narration, as noted above.
