I say: This chain is good. All of its narrators are trustworthy, notwithstanding the well-known disagreement concerning Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr. However, a differing chain has been narrated for it: Ḥiṣn said, “Abū Salamah narrated to me: ʿĀʾishah narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said …” He then mentioned it.
It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in Mushkil al-Āthār (1/168) and Ibn ʿAsākir in The History of Damascus (5/145), through Bishr ibn Bakr: al-Awzāʿī narrated to us; Ḥiṣn narrated to us, with the same report.
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, apart from this Ḥiṣn. Ibn al-Qaṭṭān said: “His status is unknown.”
I say: His differing narration therefore carries no weight.
The second: from Bakr ibn ʿAmr, from Abū ʿUthmān Muslim ibn Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah, with the same report.
It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah in al-Muṣannaf (8/762), al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (259), al-Ṭaḥāwī (1/171), al-Ḥākim (1/102), and al-Bayhaqī through him, as well as Aḥmad (2/321), through Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb from him, with the same report. All of them recorded it through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. Aḥmad added: “from his book.”
He added another detail as well: he inserted ʿAmr ibn Abī Nuʿaymah between Bakr ibn ʿAmr and Abū ʿUthmān. This is also al-Ḥākim’s version, though through Ibn Wahb from Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb. Al-Ḥākim then said: “Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb corroborated him from Bakr ibn ʿAmr.”
Al-Ḥākim, al-Bayhaqī, and al-Ṭaḥāwī then transmitted it with a connected chain through two routes from Yaḥyā, from Bakr, from ʿAmr ibn Abī Nuʿaymah, with the same report.
Rushdayn also corroborated him, saying: “Bakr ibn ʿAmr narrated to me,” with the same report.
