But Ṭalḥah ibn Zayd—who was from Damascus and later al-Raqqah—is abandoned.
The fifth: Khusaylah, daughter of Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ, said: “I heard my father say …” Then she mentioned it in separate parts, rather than as the hadith under this heading.
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it (237 and 238) through Muḥammad ibn al-Ashqar al-Lakhmī, from her.
This Ibn al-Ashqar is weak, and Khusaylah—who is also said to have been named Fusaylah—is unknown. She has another hadith in Abū Dāwūd, which I have traced in Ghayat al-Maram, no. (305). *
3064—“Indeed, Allah has forgiven you your lie because of your affirmation of ‘There is no god worthy of worship but Allah.’”
It has been narrated in hadiths from Anas, Ibn ʿUmar, and Ibn ʿAbbās, and mursal from al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī.
- As for the hadith of Anas: al-Ḥārith ibn ʿUbayd narrated it from Thābit, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to a man:
“O so-and-so, did you do such-and-such?”
He replied, “No, by Him besides whom there is no god worthy of worship!” Yet the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, knew that he had done it. He then said to him … and mentioned it.
It was recorded by ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in al-Muntakhab min al-Musnad (3/175/1374), Abū Yaʿlā in his Musnad (6/104/3368), al-Bazzār (4/7/3068), al-ʿUqaylī in al-Ḍuʿafāʾ (1/213)—whose wording is cited here—Ibn ʿAdī in al-Kāmil (2/608), and al-Bayhaqī in al-Sunan (10/37).
Al-ʿUqaylī said in the biographical notice of this al-Ḥārith—who was al-Iyādī:
“No one corroborates him in it. This text is narrated through a chain other than this one, a sound chain more authentic than this.”
