In another narration from him, he said:
One night, the people were given rain during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The following morning, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Have you not heard what your Lord said tonight? He said: ‘Whenever I bestow a blessing upon My servants, a group among them awakens disbelieving in it. As for the one who believes in Me and praises Me for My sending down rain, he is the one who believes in Me and disbelieves in the stars. But as for the one who says, “We were given rain by the stellar influence of such-and-such,” he is the one who believes in the stars and disbelieves in Me—or disbelieves in My blessing.’”
It was recorded by Abu ‘Awanah (1/26–27), al-Nasa’i (1/227), and al-Humaydi in his Musnad (356/813).
The second is from Abu Hurayrah, with an abridged wording similar to the hadith of Zayd.
Muslim (1/59–60) recorded it through two chains from him. Al-Nasa’i, al-Bayhaqi (3/358), and Ahmad (2/362 and 368) also recorded it through one of those two chains from him.

“Among the people are those who have awakened grateful, and those who have awakened disbelieving. They said, ‘This is Allah’s mercy,’ while some of them said, ‘The stellar influence of such-and-such has proved true.’ Then this verse was revealed: ‘So I swear by the positions of the stars,’ up to, ‘and you make your gratitude for your provision a denial.’” [al-Waqi‘ah 75–82]
It was recorded by Muslim (1/60), Abu ‘Awanah, and al-Bayhaqi by way of ‘Ikrimah ibn ‘Ammar: Abu Zumayl narrated to us, saying: Ibn ‘Abbas narrated to me.
This is a good chain of transmission, for although this ‘Ikrimah is among Muslim’s narrators, his retention
