al-Ḥaḍramī narrated to us: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah narrated to us: Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī narrated it to us through the same chain. Its wording is:
“Whenever a man embraced Islam during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, they would teach him the prayer.”
I say: This too is an authentic chain of transmission:
-
This Ibn Abī al-Dumayk was a trustworthy Baghdadi narrator. Al-Khaṭīb included his biography in his History.
-
Al-Ḥasan ibn Ḥammād al-Ḥaḍramī was likewise a Baghdadi. Ibn Ḥibbān, al-Khaṭīb, and al-Dhahabī declared him trustworthy.
-
Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah—namely, al-Fazārī al-Kūfī—was trustworthy and one of the narrators relied upon by the Two Shaykhs.
Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (1/293):
“Al-Ṭabarānī and al-Bazzār narrated it in al-Kabīr, and its narrators are those of the Ṣaḥīḥ.”
This appears there with the order reversed; perhaps the original reading was: “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Kabīr.”
Moreover, the addition, “narrated to us,” in al-Bazzār’s chain of transmission has been omitted from Kashf al-Astār. I have restored it from Mukhtaṣar al-Zawāʾid (p. 40), from a photographic copy in my possession. The editor of its printed edition likewise included it (1/188), noting that it was omitted from manuscript (S).
For further benefit, see what has preceded in this Silsilah (2953). *
- “He performed the funeral prayer over a deceased person three days after his death.”
Al-Dāraquṭnī recorded it in al-Sunan (2/78/7), and through his route al-Bayhaqī in his Sunan (4/46), and al-Khaṭīb in his History (7/455), from al-Ḥasan ibn Yūnus al-Zayyāt: Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr narrated to us: Huraym ibn Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Shaybānī, from al-Shaʿbī, from Ibn ʿAbbās: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed … the hadith.
