They said, “Hypocrisy!” He said:
“Do you not testify that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger?”
They said, “Certainly.” He said:
“That is not hypocrisy.”
They said, “When we are with you, we are in one state; but when we leave you, worldly concerns and our families preoccupy us!” He said:
“If, when you left me, you remained in the state you are in with me, the angels would shake hands with you in the streets of Madinah.”
Abu Ya‘la recorded it in his Musnad (6/58/3304): ‘Abd al-Wahid narrated to us: Ghassan ibn Burzin narrated to us through this chain.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission; all its narrators are trustworthy. ‘Abd al-Wahid is Ibn Ghiyath, and Thabit is al-Bunani.
Qatadah also narrated it from Anas in abbreviated form, and it has already appeared under no. (1965) *
