There I mentioned for it a third route, reported by Muslim and al-Nasāʾī from Thābit, from Anas—citing al-Fatḥ—and I denied there that it occurs in Muslim. I considered it likely that al-Nasāʾī’s narration was in al-Kubrā. I have now confirmed the aforementioned denial and established that al-Nasāʾī’s narration is of the first part of the hadith under discussion and has no connection to the preceding hadith. Moreover, Muslim has another hadith, through the chain of transmission of the hadith under discussion, which has preceded under no. 1167. I think the Ḥāfiẓ confused it with that one. And Allah knows best.
“An earthful”: that is, what would fill it until it rises above it and overflows, as stated in al-Nihāyah. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Fatḥ (7/52):
“That is, its full measure. The original sense of ‘an earthful’ is that upon which the sun rises; what is meant here is wealth that rises above it and towers over it.” *
3009—“A nabīdh infusion would be prepared for him in a waterskin; if no waterskin was available, then in a stone basin.”
Aḥmad recorded it (3/307): Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Abū al-Zubayr, who heard it from Jābir … and he cited it.
I say: This is an authentic three-narrator chain of transmission meeting the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except that al-Bukhārī narrated Abū al-Zubayr alongside another narrator. His name was Muḥammad ibn Muslim ibn Tadrus al-Makkī; he was a trustworthy memorizer who practised tadlīs. However, Sufyān explicitly stated, on his authority, that he heard it from Jābir. This is an important point absent from Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, the other Sunan collections, and other works; for this reason, and because of its elevated chain of transmission, I have cited it.
Zakariyyā ibn Isḥāq also corroborated him: Abū al-Zubayr narrated to us that he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh relate something similar.
