I say: In this wording, it is a rejected report from Hisham ibn Urwah. The preserved wording is that narrated by Abu Usamah and others from Hisham:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to like sweets and honey.”
Ahmad (6/59), the two Shaykhs, and others transmitted it. It has been fully referenced in my new book, A Concise Compendium of the Prophetic Characteristics (164).
However, I found a supporting narration for the hadith under discussion, related by Ismail ibn Umayyah, from an unnamed man, from Ibn Abbas: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked, “Which drink is most pleasant?” He replied:
“The sweet and cold.”
Ahmad transmitted it (1/338).
I say: The narrators in its chain are narrators of the two Sahihs, apart from the unnamed man, who was a Successor; thus, a report such as his may serve as corroboration. And Allah knows best.
This hadith has previously been fully referenced in volume five, no. (2134), which necessitated this clarification. *
3007—“There will be caliphs after me who act upon what they know and do what they are commanded. There will also be caliphs after me who act upon what they do not know and do what they are not commanded. Whoever denounces them is absolved, and whoever withholds his hand is safe; but whoever approves and follows...”
Abu Yala transmitted it in his Musnad (4/1413): Abu Bakr ibn Zanjuyah narrated to us: Abu al-Mughirah Abd al-Quddus narrated to us: al-Awzai narrated to us: al-Zuhri narrated to me, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah,
