I then added:
First: The hadith of Talhah, as narrated by Sulayman ibn Ayyub, was included by al-Diyaʾ in al-Mukhtarah (3/43/848) through his route of transmission.
Second: Ibn ʿAsakir (8/548) narrated the hadith of Anas through Abu Nuʿaym, as recorded by al-Tabarani, with his weak chain from someone who heard Anas ibn Malik—that is, concerning Talhah on the day of Uhud.
I say: Perhaps al-Suyuti’s attribution of this hadith of Anas to al-Tabarani was simply based on his acceptance of Ibn ʿAsakir’s report that he narrated it from him. He and others frequently do this. Allah knows best.
Third: Ibn ʿAsakir also narrated the hadith of al-Zuhri (549) through al-Walid ibn Muslim: “Al-Layth narrated to me from (the original text reads: ibn) ʿUqayl, from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri,” with the same wording.
I say: This is an authentic mursal chain, and thus a strong corroborating report for what has preceded.
The hadith also has another route from Talhah. Ahmad narrated it in Fadaʾil al-Sahabah (2/745/1294): “Hushaym narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, the client of the family of Talhah, informed us from Musa ibn Talhah that Talhah’s hand was struck on the day of Uhud ...” This appears to be a mursal report.
Aban ibn Sufyan corroborated him: “Hushaym narrated to us” through the same chain, except that he said, “from his father” ... thus making it connected.
Ibn ʿAsakir (8/247–548) narrated it through al-Daraqutni, who said:
“Al-Daraqutni said: Hushaym alone narrated it, and it is among his early hadiths.”
Then Ibn ʿAsakir narrated it through the hadith master ʿAbdullah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ashʿath, from
