“and repentance remains available thereafter.” It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (12/67 and 95), Muslim, al-Nasāʾī (2/254), Abū Dāwūd (2/270), al-Tirmidhī (2627), and Aḥmad (2/376–377 and 479), all through al-Aʿmash from him, with this wording.
Al-Qaʿqāʿ and Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād corroborated him in narrating it from Abū Ṣāliḥ, without this addition. The first of them did mention the plunder, however, alluding to it by saying, “And he mentioned a fourth matter, but I forgot it.” Yazīd added: “If he does that, he has cast off the bond of Islam from his neck; but if he repents, Allah accepts his repentance.” This is a reprehensible addition, uniquely narrated by this Yazīd—the Hāshimites’ client—who is weak due to his poor memory.
The fifth: from Hammām, from him, with a similar wording, except that he said: “None of you seizes a prized piece of plunder, to which the believers raise their eyes, while he is a believer at the time he seizes it; nor does any of you misappropriate war booty while he is a believer at the time he does so. So beware, beware!” Muslim and Aḥmad (2/317) recorded it.
The sixth and seventh: Ṣafwān ibn Sulaym narrates them from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār—the client of Maymūnah—and Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from him. Muslim recorded them, and Aḥmad recorded it through another route from ʿAṭāʾ alone, as will come shortly.
The eighth: from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from him. Muslim recorded it.
The ninth: from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan and ʿAṭāʾ, from him.
