In connection with the mention of the hadith of Abu Saʿīd al-Khudrī, I say: Al-Ḥāfiẓ attributed it in al-Fatḥ (2/230) to Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, but this is an error. Ibn Ḥibbān only narrated a similar report from the hadith of Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, under no. (443—Mawārid). This is why, in Bulūgh al-Marām, he attributed it only to the five—that is, the compilers of the four Sunan and Aḥmad.
This report and the hadith of Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim are among the corroborating narrations previously mentioned. They are documented in al-Irwāʾ, together with the hadith of ʿUmar al-Fārūq, in the place previously indicated. Yet, despite these routes of transmission and corroborating reports, the so-called Ḥassān ibn ʿAbd al-Mannān presumptuously ventured to declare the hadith weak. In his annotations to Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah’s Ighāthat al-Lahfān, he discussed some of its routes, alleging hidden defects in them. He also deceived the readers by concealing from them this hadith of ʿUmar and the hadith of Anas through its two routes. I had explicitly stated there in al-Irwāʾ that its chain of transmission is authentic, yet he made no mention of it, nor of the hadith of ʿUmar. Thus he denied and acted arrogantly; so let whoever wishes take heed.
2997 — “Do not forget them; they are like the takbīrs at funerals.” He gestured with his fingers, folding down his thumb—meaning in the Eid prayer.
Al-Ṭaḥāwī narrated it in Sharḥ al-Maʿānī (4/345, Egypt edition) by two routes from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf, from Yaḥyā ibn Ḥamzah, who said: Al-Waḍīn ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to me that al-Qāsim Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to him, saying: One of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, narrated to me: “The Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, led us in the Eid prayer and pronounced four takbīrs in each unit. Then, when he had finished, he turned his face toward us and said…” Then he cited it. He said: “This hadith has a good chain of transmission. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf, Yaḥyā ibn Ḥamzah, al-Waḍīn, and al-Qāsim are all established transmitters, known for sound transmission.”
