Al-Zuhri likewise corroborated it, narrating from ʿUrwah alone with a similar wording.
Al-Nasāʾī recorded it (2/10–11) through Sufyān from him, and its chain is likewise authentic. All of its transmitters are those found in the two Ṣaḥīḥs except for Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Abū ʿUbayd al-Makhzūmī, al-Nasāʾī’s teacher; he is trustworthy, and is especially reliable in his narrations from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah—of which this report is one.
Al-Ḥajjāj ibn Arṭāʾah, however, disagreed in his transmission from al-Zuhri. He said: “From al-Zuhri, from ʿAmrah bint ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿĀʾishah,” raising it to the Prophet with the wording:
“When any one of you has stoned the Jamrat al-ʿAqabah, everything becomes lawful for him except women.”
Al-Ḥajjāj was a narrator who practised tadlīs, and in every chain from him here he reports with ʿanʿanah. In addition, the text of the ḥadīth varies among those who transmit from him, as I clarified in al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah, no. 1013.
The ḥadīth has also come through the route of ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, raised to the Prophet, in wording similar to the report of Ibn ʿAbbās—yet with the extra phrase, “and when you have slaughtered and shaved.” This is an objectionable addition that is not established; for that reason I cited the report in al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah, explained its defect there—let that be consulted—and mentioned afterward another supporting narration from Umm Salamah that likewise contains a further unreliable addition.
Later I came across yet another supporting route for ʿĀʾishah’s report in al-Bayhaqī (5/135): from ʿAbd al-Razzaq, who told us; from Maʿmar; from al-Zuhri; from Sālim; from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: I heard ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) say,
“When you have pelted the jamrah with seven pebbles, and have slaughtered and shaved, everything becomes lawful except women and perfume.”
Sālim added: “And ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Everything has been made lawful for him except women.” He continued: “And ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: ‘I myself perfumed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,’ meaning after he had become halāl.”
I say: This chain is sound according to the criteria of both al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Al-Bayhaqī then narrated, through the route of ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Sālim, who said: ʿĀʾishah —
