Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah likewise followed them, narrating from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab and Ḥarām ibn Saʿd ibn Muḥayyisah, that a she-camel belonging to al-Barāʾ… It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/436) and al-Bayhaqī (8/342).
Al-Awzāʿī also followed their lead, though the transmitters disagreed about his chain. Abū al-Mughīrah said: “Al-Awzāʿī narrated to us—from al-Zuhrī, from Ḥarām ibn Muḥayyisah al-Anṣārī,” transmitting it in mursal form. Al-Bayhaqī recorded this version (8/341).
Al-Firyābī, however, reported it from al-Awzāʿī with the wording “from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib,” thereby connecting the chain. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/267) and, through his route, by al-Bayhaqī and al-Ḥākim (2/48).
Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab likewise said, “Al-Awzāʿī narrated it to us,” with a connected chain; Aḥmad (4/295) and al-Bayhaqī recorded it.
Ayyūb ibn Suwayd reported the same—“Al-Awzāʿī narrated it to us”—with a connected chain as well; al-Ṭaḥāwī (2/116) and al-Bayhaqī recorded it. Thus these three—al-Firyābī, Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab, and Ayyūb ibn Suwayd—are unanimous in connecting the report from al-Awzāʿī, and their collective testimony outweighs the solitary mursal version of Abū al-Mughīrah.
Maʿmar also followed them, yet there is disagreement about his chain. ʿAbd al-Razzāq said: “Maʿmar narrated to us—from al-Zuhrī, from Ḥarām ibn Muḥayyisah, from his father—that a she-camel belonging to al-Barāʾ…”—adding the link “from his father” to the chain. This version was recorded by Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Ḥibbān (1168), Aḥmad (5/436), and al-Bayhaqī, who remarked: “Wuhayb and Abū Masʿūd al-Zajjāj transmitted it from Maʿmar without the words ‘from his father.’”
Ibn al-Turkumānī said: “Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, with his chain, quoted Abū Dāwūd as saying: No one besides ʿAbd al-Razzāq supported that addition…”
