He said: Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥārith narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to us: al-Nuʿmān narrated to us: Abū Bakr narrated to us: Shuʿayb ibn al-Ḥabbāb informed me, from al-Shaʿbī, who said: I heard Fāṭimah bint Qays, may Allah be pleased with her, say:
“I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with a necklace containing seventy mithqāls of gold, and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, take from it the prescribed due that Allah has assigned to it.’” She said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, took one mithqāl and three-quarters of a mithqāl, and directed it accordingly.” She said: “I then said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, take from it that which Allah has assigned to it.’” She said: “The Messenger of Allah then divided it among these six categories and others, and went on to mention it.” [She said:] “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I am content for myself with what Allah, the Exalted, and His Messenger have approved.’”
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. All its narrators, down to al-Nuʿmān—who is al-Nuʿmān ibn ʿAbd al-Salām al-Iṣfahānī—are trustworthy narrators recorded in al-Tahdhīb. As for Muḥammad ibn al-Mughīrah, who narrated from him, he was an Iṣfahānī associate of al-Nuʿmān. Abū al-Shaykh included his biography in Ṭabaqāt al-Iṣfahāniyyīn (1/243–244), as did Abū Nuʿaym in Akhbār Iṣfahān (2/185–186), on the authority of a group of trustworthy transmitters from him. They mentioned that he was devoted to worship and night prayer, accompanied al-Nuʿmān, and heard most of his source-books. He died in 231 AH. Ibn Ḥibbān also mentioned him in al-Thiqāt (6/105).
As for Abū al-Shaykh’s teacher, Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥārith, Abū al-Shaykh likewise included his biography in al-Ṭabaqāt (2/136), as did Abū Nuʿaym (1/188–189). Abū Bakr al-Bardhaʿī and Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Mandah narrated from him. He heard from Saʿīd ibn Manṣūr, though the record of his audition was lost, and he possessed al-Nuʿmān’s books as transmitted by Muḥammad ibn al-Mughīrah. Abū al-Shaykh said: “I attended his gathering when Abū Bakr al-Bazzār came. He brought out to him al-Nuʿmān’s books, and he made selections from him”
