1. As for the hadith of Aishah, it has two chains from her. The first is from Ayyub ibn Utbah, from Yahya, from Abu Salamah, from her. She said: He then mentioned it. Ahmad recorded it (6/78). I say: Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Sahih collections, apart from Ayyub ibn Utbah, who is weak, as stated in al-Taqrib.

The other is narrated by Fudayl Abu Muadh, from Abu Hariz, from al-Shabi, from Aishah, in an abridged form, omitting the words, “If she remained silent ...” and so on. It was recorded by Ibn Adi in al-Kamil (4/160), by Abu Yala (8/4883), and cited without a complete chain by al-Bayhaqi (7/123). I say: Its chain is good, especially as corroborative evidence. All its narrators are trustworthy, except that Abu Hariz—whose name was Abdullah ibn Husayn al-Basri—would make mistakes, as stated in al-Taqrib.

2. As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, it likewise has two chains. The first is from Abu al-Asbat, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah; and from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas—may Allah be pleased with them both—who said: He then mentioned it, similar to the hadith cited in the heading. Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in al-Sunan (7/123) and said: “This is how Abu al-Asbat al-Harithi narrated it, but it is not preserved. The preserved version from Yahya is mursal.” Then he and Abd al-Razzaq, in al-Musannaf (6/141–142), transmitted it through two chains from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from al-Muhajir ibn Ikrimah al-Makhzumi, who said: He then mentioned it.
