“I heard Abū Kabshah al-Anmārī say: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting with his Companions. He then went inside and came back out after bathing. We asked, “O Messenger of Allah, has something occurred?” He replied, “Yes. So-and-so woman passed by me ….”’
I (al-Albānī) say: This chain of transmission is ḥasan, if Allah wills. All of its narrators are trustworthy and are found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, except al-Ḥarāzī—he is also known as ʿAbdullāh ibn Saʿīd al-Ḥarāzī.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar states in al-Tahdhīb: “The only criticism of him concerns his doctrinal leaning toward nasb (the Nasibī stance hostile to ʿAlī), while al-ʿIjlī and Ibn Ḥibbān deemed him reliable.” Ibn Ḥajar likewise says in al-Taqrīb: “Truthful (ṣadūq).”
Al-Haythamī cites the ḥadith in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (6/292) and remarks, “It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī, and the men in Aḥmad’s chain are trustworthy.”
I further note: The ḥadith is corroborated by another report from Abū al-Zubayr on the authority of Jābir:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a woman and was attracted to her, so he went to Zaynab while she was tanning a leather hide and satisfied his desire with her. He then said, ‘A woman advances in the guise of Satan and retreats in the guise of Satan. If one of you sees a woman and she pleases him, let him go to his wife, for that will dispel what he feels within himself.’”
This narration was recorded by Muslim (6/129–130), Abū Dāwūd (2151), al-Bayhaqī (7/90), and Aḥmad (3/330, 341, 348, 395); the wording above is Aḥmad’s, reported through multiple chains from Abū al-Zubayr.
