It then occurred to me that this chain of transmission may be the one of which al-Majd al-Lughawi said: “Its chain is authentic; its narrators are relied upon in the two Sahihs.” Yet Ibn Abi ‘Asim’s teacher in it, Muhammad ibn Azhar al-Juzajani, is not among their narrators. Ibn Hibban said in al-Thiqat (9/123): “A shaykh... Ahmad ibn Sayyar narrated from him—though al-Lisan has: Sinan—prolific in hadith; he devoted himself to memorization and was one of Ahmad ibn Hanbal’s associates.”
I then saw the hadith in al-Jami‘ al-Kabir, with Ibn Abi ‘Asim’s wording, where it says: “Al-Daylami narrated it from Anas, while Ibn Abi ‘Asim narrated it from Qatadah as a mursal report; its chain is good.” See Addendum no. 5.
2964 — “How many a luxuriant date cluster Abu al-Dahdah has in Paradise!”—repeated several times.
It was recorded by Ahmad (3/146), Ibn Hibban (2271—Mawarid), al-Tabarani in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (22/300/763), al-Hakim (2/20), and, through him, al-Bayhaqi (3/249/3451), as well as al-Diya’ al-Maqdisi in al-Mukhtarah (1/515), through several routes from Hammad ibn Salamah, who said: Thabit al-Bunani narrated to us from Anas ibn Malik that a man said: “Messenger of Allah, so-and-so has a date palm, and I am laying out my date-palm grove around it. Tell him to give me [it] [so that] I may complete my garden with it.” The Prophet said to him: “Give it to him in exchange for a date palm in Paradise.”
