Muslim recorded it (4/151). I say: This, together with the preceding report from al-Jaʿd—“My son!”—corroborates the hadith of Salm al-ʿAlawī and makes clear that the “event” mentioned in it was the revelation of the verse of hijab, which is explicitly stated in some of the routes from Salm, as noted above. It was on this occasion that he was told: “Do not enter without permission.”
This is further confirmed by another version recorded by Muslim (4/149), from Thābit and others, concerning this incident. He said: “He went on until he entered the house. I then went to enter with him, but he placed the curtain between himself and me, and the command of hijab was revealed.”
I then found another route for it, through which Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān narrates from al-Zuhrī, from Anas, in abbreviated form: “I was the first person to learn of the verse of hijab. When it was revealed, the Messenger of Allah said to me: ‘Do not enter upon the women.’ No day was ever harder on me than that day.” (See Addendum 4.)
2958 — “It is as though I can see Moses, son of Imran, descending on foot from the mountain pass of Harshā.”
Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it in his Ṣaḥīḥ (7/27/3747): Al-Mufaḍḍal (1) ibn Muḥammad al-Jundī—at Mecca—informed us: ʿAlī ibn Ziyād al-Laḥjī (2) narrated to us: Abū Qurrah narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd informed me, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah said—and he then cited it.
