Al-Dhahabi cited this in full in al-Siyar (3/418–419), through Fitr ibn Khalifah, from his father, without attributing it to anyone. As for the suspended report, however, he attributed it to Abu Dawud, no. 3060! This attribution is mistaken, since it gives readers the impression that the hadith in its entirety is found in Abu Dawud, whereas that is not the case. What is found there, under the number he indicated, is only the portion concerning the house-plot. Because of the weakness of Khalifah, and because no corroborating narrator or supporting report exists for this portion, I included it in Da'if Abi Dawud, no. 545. Indeed, You are the One who brings forward and puts back. There is no deity worthy of worship but You.’”
Al-Bukhari recorded it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (174/673), and Ahmad (2/291, 514, and 526), through several routes from Abd al-Rahman al-Mas'udi, from Alqamah ibn Marthad, from Abu al-Rabi', from Abu Hurayrah, who said: Then he cited it. I say: This is a good chain of transmission; all its narrators are well-known and trustworthy. Abu al-Rabi' was al-Madani. Simak ibn Harb and Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad also narrated from him. Abu Hatim said: “Sound in hadith.” Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat (5/582), al-Tirmidhi graded his hadith good, and al-Dhahabi said: “Truthful.” As for al-Hafiz’s limiting his assessment of him to saying:
