for you have learned that this addition is not found in al-Bukhari’s Sahih. Al-Hafiz explicitly stated this in Fath al-Bari (11/142).
Sufyan al-Thawri corroborated Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah in transmitting it. Al-Bukhari recorded it (4392): Abu Nu‘aym narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Dhakwan, in an abbreviated form of the report. Ibn Dhakwan’s name was ‘Abdullah, and he was Abu al-Zinad. Ibn Hibban likewise recorded it in his Sahih (2/162/975) through another route from Abu Nu‘aym; and Ahmad (2/448) recorded: Waki‘ narrated to us, from Sufyan, with this report.
Al-Mughirah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman also corroborated him, from Abu al-Zinad, except that he added after the words, “So invoke Allah against them”: “It was said: ‘Daws is doomed.’” Muslim recorded it (7/180).
I have strayed far from the hadith under discussion while discussing the narrator of its abbreviated corroborating report, in order now to say that it has another supporting hadith, more authentic and more complete: the hadith of Anas. It contains the Prophet’s words, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “To those on the right, then to those on the right.” Al-Bukhari and Muslim, along with others, narrated it, and its documentation has already been given under no. 1771.

This was the practice of the righteous predecessors, as you may see in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/223). Ibn Abi Shaybah, Muslim, ‘Abd al-Razzaq, and al-Humaydi narrated in the aforementioned hadith of Anas that, when the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, drank, a Bedouin was on his right, Abu Bakr was on his left, and ‘Umar
