walking and leaving her hair uncovered.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Allah has no need of your sister’s vow. Tell her to ride and offer a sacrificial animal, and I believe he also said: ‘and to cover her hair.’”
It was recorded by al-Ruyani in his Musnad (19/6/1–2), and its narrators are trustworthy. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, also corroborated it from Uqbah ibn Amir in similar wording, saying, “and let her offer a sacrificial animal,” in place of the additional wording. It was recorded by al-Tahawi (2/75) with an authentic chain of transmission. Others also narrated it in similar wording, and al-Hafiz authenticated it. It is fully referenced in al-Irwa’ (8/219).
Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Hubali also corroborated it from Uqbah ibn Amir, except that he said, “and let her fast for three days,” in place of the additional wording. It was likewise recorded by al-Tahawi, in Mushkil al-Athar (3/38), and by al-Ruyani in his Musnad (19/5/1), through the route of Huyayy—in the original: Yahya—ibn Abdullah al-Ma‘afiri, from him. I say: Its chain, together with the preceding one, is good.
Abdullah ibn Malik also corroborated it from Uqbah, similarly to the preceding report. Its chain contains a weakness, which I explained, along with its full referencing, in the source mentioned above; al-Tirmidhi, however, graded it good.
It was also recorded by Abd al-Razzaq in al-Musannaf (8/450/15871), Abu Ya‘la in his Musnad (3/291/1753), al-Ruyani in his Musnad (19/55/1–2), and al-Tabarani in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (17/323/893 and 894). The two Shaykhs and others also narrated it through another route, from Abu al-Khayr, from Uqbah, in a highly abridged wording:
