2929 — “During the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Abu Bakr set out as a merchant to Busra. His reluctance to leave the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not prevent him from pursuing his share of commercial travel, for they admired the profits of trade and loved commerce. Nor did the Messenger of Allah’s love of Abu Bakr’s company and his reluctance to part with him—for he greatly delighted in his companionship—prevent Abu Bakr from setting out on his trading journey, because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, approved of—according to another narration, regarded as commendable—commerce and admired it.”
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (23/300/674): al-Husayn ibn Ishaq narrated to us; Abu al-Mu'afa al-Harrani narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Abu Abd al-Rahim, from Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah, from al-Zuhri, from Abdullah, the brother of Umm Salamah, who said: I heard Umm Salamah say it, and then cited the report.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and known, and are included among the narrators of al-Tahdhib, apart from al-Husayn ibn Ishaq, who was al-Tustari. Al-Dhahabi said in Siyar A'lam al-Nubala' (14/57): “He was a hadith master who travelled extensively, and Abu al-Qasim al-Tabarani narrated much from him.”
I say: He has one hadith in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and five hadiths in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat (1/198/1–2/2617–2621). The hadith also has another chain of transmission. Al-Tabarani said in al-Awsat (2/95/2/6524): Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to us; my father narrated to us, from Musa ibn A'yun, from Ishaq ibn Rashid, from al-Zuhri, from Abdullah ibn Zam'ah, who said: I heard Umm Salamah say it, and then cited the report. He said:
