from their father in only two of those works whose authors committed themselves to including authentic reports: Sahih Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim’s Mustadrak.
First: the hadiths of Buraydah narrated from him by his two sons, with their numbering in al-Ihsan bi-Tartib Sahih Ibn Hibban, published by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah in seven volumes:
-
“On the night I was taken on the Night Journey...” (1/1/12/47). Its sources are documented in al-Mishkat (5921, second critical edition). It was graded good by al-Tirmidhi and authentic by al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi.
-
“The worldly ranks of people...” (2/42/697 and 698). Its sources are documented in al-Irwa’ (6/271–272), and it was graded authentic by al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi. Abd Allah ibn Buraydah explicitly stated that he heard it from his father.
-
“You have indeed asked Allah by the Name by which, when He is asked, He grants...” (2/125/888 and 889). Its sources are documented in Sifat al-Salah and Sahih Abi Dawud (1341). It was graded authentic by al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi, and good by al-Tirmidhi.
-
The hadith concerning the question about the prescribed times (3/24/1490 and 35/1523). Its sources are documented under the fourth hadith referred to above (p. 983), among the previously cited hadiths of Muslim.
-
“The human being has three hundred and sixty joints...” (3/79/1640 and 3/106). Its sources are documented in al-Irwa’ (2/213), through the narration of a group that includes Ahmad and al-Tahawi. Both explicitly state in it that Abd Allah heard it from his father, Buraydah; this is also Ibn Khuzaymah’s narration in his Sahih (1226).
-
“He performed all the prayers with a single minor ablution” (3/105/1703, 1704, and 1705). Muslim also narrated it, and a number of scholars graded it authentic. It is the first hadith referred to above (p. 982).
