The first number refers to the account of Maʿiz and his stoning; it is recorded in Irwaʾ al-Ghalil (7/356–357), and al-Daraqutni also authenticated it. The second refers to Buraydah’s taking part with him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in nineteen military expeditions. Muslim recorded it through the chain of transmission of the hadith under discussion, and Abd Allah explicitly stated in Dalaʾil al-Nubuwwah, as mentioned above, that he heard it from his father. The third refers to the hadith of the woman who gave a slave-girl in charity on behalf of her mother. It is recorded in al-Irwaʾ (3/262) and Sahih Abi Dawud (1460). Al-Hakim included it as will follow, but he was mistaken. The fourth concerns the prohibition of visiting graves, the meat of sacrificial animals, and other matters. It is recorded in Ahkam al-Janaʾiz (pp. 178–179) and al-Silsilah al-Sahihah (2048—volume five), and was authenticated by al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibban. The fifth concerns his saying, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: “He has been given one of the flutes of the family of David.” It is recorded in Sahih Abi Dawud (1341), and Ibn Hibban also authenticated it.
The third point is that the hadiths which Muslim recorded through Sulayman ibn Buraydah, from his father, are more numerous and superior. For the convenience of anyone wishing to locate them in Tuhfat al-Ashraf, their numbers are: (1928, 1929, 1930, 1931–1937). The first of them is recorded in Sahih Abi Dawud (164), and was also authenticated by Abu Awanah, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban. The second hadith is recorded in al-Irwaʾ (5/86/1247), and was also authenticated by Abu Awanah, Ibn Hibban, and Ibn al-Jarud. The third is recorded in Ahkam al-Janaʾiz (pp. 189–190), and Ibn Hibban also authenticated it.
