Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

This hadith contains strong corroboration that the report was a verse once recited; moreover, it adds that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite it in prayer.

It is further corroborated by the fifth hadith, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who said: “A sura was revealed and then withdrawn, and I retained from it: ‘If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would seek a third in addition to them...’” The hadith.

2912 — “A sura was revealed and then withdrawn, and I retained from it: ‘If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would seek a third in addition to them...’” The hadith.

Al-Tahawi recorded it (2/418–419): Abu Umayyah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Hadrami narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us; Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from Abu Harb ibn Abi al-Aswad al-Du'ali, from his father, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who said: He then related it.

I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators, apart from Abu Umayyah, whose name was Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Muslim al-Khuza'i al-Tarsusi. He was truthful and a proficient memorizer, though he made some errors; however, he was corroborated. Al-Tahawi then said: Ibrahim ibn Marzuq narrated to us; Affan ibn Muslim narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd, from Abu Harb ibn Abi al-Aswad, with the same report.

Hajjaj ibn Minhal likewise narrated it. Thus, Abu Ubayd said in Fada'il al-Quran (p. 192): Hajjaj narrated to us, from Hammad ibn Salamah, with the same report. Ali ibn Zayd—who was Ibn Jud'an—was weak, but Hammad ibn Salamah narrated it in corroboration of him, as mentioned above through Abu Umayyah’s route. Hammad was in turn corroborated by Ali ibn Mushir, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from Abu Harb ibn Abi al-Aswad, from his father, who said: Abu Musa al-Ash'ari summoned the Quran reciters of Basra. Three hundred men who had read the Quran entered before him, and he said: “You are the best people of Basra and its reciters. Recite it, and do not let too much time pass for you, lest...”
