Kharijah ibn Musʿab, too, is abandoned. However, the hadith has a corroborating report better than those mentioned above. Ahmad said in al-Musnad (3/62): “ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Walid narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Qazaʿah, from Abu Saʿid, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said”—and he then quoted it.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. All its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of the two Sahihs, apart from this ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Walid, who is al-ʿAdani. There is disagreement concerning him, though Ahmad said of him: “His hadith is authentic.” Al-Dhahabi said in al-Mughni: “Truthful.” Al-Hafiz said likewise, adding: “He sometimes errs.”
I say: He was corroborated, for Ibn Hibban transmitted it in his Sahih (5/236/3570) through another route from Ahmad, who said: “Muʾammal ibn Ismaʿil and ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Walid narrated to us, from Sufyan,” through the same chain. The standing of this Muʾammal is close to that of al-ʿAdani. Al-Hafiz said: “Truthful, but poor in retention.” Thus, he provides strong corroboration, and the hadith is authentic, for it has also been transmitted through another chain from Abu Saʿid, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “Do not observe uninterrupted fasting ...”—the hadith.
