Ibn Hibban then said: “By his statement, ‘Do not do such a thing again,’ he meant arriving late for the Friday prayer, not the two rakʿahs which he had commanded him to perform. Evidence for this is the report of Ibn ʿAjlan, mentioned earlier, in which he ordered him, on the following Friday, to perform two rakʿahs like them.”
I say: The hadith of Ibn ʿAjlan to which Ibn Hibban referred was narrated by Ibn Hibban shortly before this; its chain of transmission is also good, and it is included in Sahih Abi Dawud (1470).
2894 — “There is to be no uninterrupted fasting.”
Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi narrated it in his Musnad (1765): Al-Yaman Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, from Abu ʿIsa, from Jabir, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this. I say: This chain of transmission is weak. This Al-Yaman is unanimously deemed weak, and I could not identify Abu ʿIsa.
It was also narrated by Haram ibn ʿUthman, from ʿAbd al-Rahman and Muhammad, the two sons of Jabir, from their father, with the same wording. ʿAbd al-Razzaq narrated it in al-Musannaf (4/269/7758), and al-Bayhaqi in al-Sunan (7/319), through two routes from him. But this Haram is abandoned; indeed, al-Shafiʿi said of him: “Narrating from Haram is forbidden!”
Al-Tayalisi also narrated it (1764): Kharijah ibn Musʿab narrated to us, from Haram ibn ʿUthman, from Abu ʿAtiq, from Jabir, with the same wording. Abu ʿAtiq is ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Jabir, mentioned above in ʿAbd al-Razzaq’s narration.
