“O so-and-so, when you retire...” —the hadith. It was recorded by al-Bukhari (13/462/7488), Muslim, Ibn Abi Shaybah (9/75/6583 and 10/246/9344), and al-Tabarani (2/903/241).
Fifth: Ma‘mar narrated it from Abu Ishaq, reporting it as an instruction of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It was recorded by ‘Abd al-Razzaq in al-Musannaf (11/34/19829) and by al-Tabarani (2/902 and 903) through two routes from him.
Sixth and seventh: ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mukhtar and Habib ibn al-Shahid narrated it from Abu Ishaq with the wording: “When he retired to his bed, he would say...” and then he mentioned it. Al-Nasa’i recorded it (774): Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn Habib informed us; he said: Ibrahim—meaning Ibn al-Hajjaj—narrated to us; he said: Hammad narrated to us from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mukhtar and Habib ibn al-Shahid, with it.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. All its narrators are known and trustworthy, except for this al-Hasan ibn Ahmad, al-Nasa’i’s shaykh, concerning whom he said: “There is no objection to him.” I say, however, that Ibrahim ibn Hashim al-Baghawi differed from him in the text of the hadith. He said: Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Sami narrated to us, with it... that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, instructed a man, when he went to bed... the hadith. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Du‘a’ (2/902/241) and in al-Mu‘jam al-Awsat (1/159/2975), where he said: “No one narrated it from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mukhtar and Habib except Hammad.”
