then a man from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would pass by and say to the merchant: “Shame on you! He has spoken the truth. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave him the option for three days.” He said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq also informed us: Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Hibban informed us, saying: “I did not know Ibn al-Zubayr …”
I say: He then cited the hadith as I previously quoted it from al-Musannaf. Al-Bayhaqi also transmitted it in his Sunan (5/273), through Yunus: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us: Nafiʿ informed me, from Ibn Umar, who said: “I heard a man from the Ansar who had an impediment in his speech …” The hadith is like al-Daraqutni’s narration, except for the report from Ibn al-Zubayr at its end. However, it includes what occurs in the hadith under discussion regarding the option for three nights, and it states: “He would return to the seller and say: ‘Take back your merchandise and return my dirhams.’ He would reply: ‘I will not do so. You accepted it and took it away,’ until a man from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would pass by him …”
Sufyan also narrated it: Ibn Ishaq informed me, from Nafiʿ, from Ibn Umar, in an abridged form without the addition. It includes Ibn Umar’s statement: “I would hear him say: ‘No deception! No deception!’ He would buy something and bring it to his family, who would say: ‘This is overpriced.’ He would reply: ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave me the option in my transaction.’” Al-Daraqutni, al-Hakim (2/22), al-Bayhaqi, and Ibn al-Jarud (567) transmitted it.
Ahmad (2/129) said: Yaʿqub narrated to us; my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Nafiʿ informed me, with the same report, but without his words: “He would buy something …” In sum, the hadith is good because Ibn Ishaq explicitly states direct transmission in many of these
