Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

“They come to you from the east.”

He then said: “Ahmad narrated it without the words ‘while they are unwilling.’ Our shaykh, Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, cited it in Da'if al-Jami' al-Saghir wa Ziyadatuh (3588) because of this addition, and said: ‘It is authentic, but not with this wording.’”

I say: I included it in al-Da'if only because of the added phrase “the east,” not because of the addition “while they are unwilling.” Rather, this is an authentic addition, as is made clear by the preceding chains. I had already drawn attention to this in al-Silsilah al-Da'ifah (4034), which is the source to which I referred in explaining the weakness mentioned in my annotation on Da'if al-Jami'. However, my wording there could be understood as al-Salafi understood it, so I revised it in a way that clarifies what I have just stated.

Moreover, the hadith with the wording “while they are unwilling” is cited in Sahih al-Jami' as no. (3878), ranked as (good). After documenting its sources here, I changed its rank to (authentic), as is evident from the totality of its chains.

2875 — “When you enter into a sale, say: ‘No deception.’ Then, regarding every item you purchase, you have the option for three nights: if you are satisfied, keep it; but if you are displeased, return it to its owner.”

Ibn Majah (2355) narrated it: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Aʿla narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Hibban, who said: “He was my grandfather, Munqidh ibn ʿAmr. He was a man who had suffered an affliction to his head that impaired his speech. Nevertheless, he did not give up trading, and he was continually cheated. So he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and mentioned this to him. The Prophet then said to him the words just cited.”

I say: This is a good chain of transmission; all of its narrators are trustworthy, notwithstanding the well-known disagreement concerning Ibn Ishaq,
