“ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad informed us, from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr, the client of al-Muṭṭalib, from al-Muṭṭalib ibn Ḥanṭab, that the Prophet, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said...” He then cited it, omitting the words: “And do not let ...”
Its arranger, al-Bannā, made no comment on it, as was his habit. It is a mursal report with a good chain of transmission. Al-Muṭṭalib ibn Ḥanṭab is ascribed to his highest ancestor; his full name is al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Muṭṭalib ibn Ḥanṭab al-Makhzūmī. It is also said that “al-Muṭṭalib” is omitted from his lineage, and it has been said that they are two separate individuals, as stated in al-Tahdhīb. He was a trustworthy Successor who frequently transmitted mursal reports.
The statement mentioned above is corroborated by a similar report from Jābir. Ibn Ḥibbān and others transmitted it, and it has been fully documented in al-Ẓilāl (420) and al-Taʿlīq al-Raghīb (3/7).
In sum, the hadith is, at the very least, good.
2867 — “Death is indeed made easy for me by my having been shown you as my wife in Paradise”—meaning ʿĀʾishah.
Al-Ḥusayn al-Marwazī transmitted it in Zawāʾid al-Zuhd (207/2): Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us; Abū Ḥanīfah narrated to us from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said to me... He then cited it. Al-Khalʿī also transmitted it through this route in al-Fawāʾid (2/59/1), and then through Saʿīd ibn ʿAnbasah, who said: Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us from Misʿar, from Ḥammād, with the same report.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy transmitters used by Muslim, apart from Saʿīd ibn ʿAnbasah, whom I believe to be Abū ʿUthmān al-Kharrāz al-Rāzī. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned (2/1/52) that he narrated from a group of men from that generation, whom he named, including Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr. He said: “My father heard from him but did not narrate from him. He said: ‘He is questionable,’ and on another occasion he said: ‘He was not truthful.’”
